Having experienced the challenges of acquiring and growing a lower-middle-market robotics company, I never thought that exiting my business would be the toughest part of that successful journey. After meeting and sharing confidential information with several business brokers, I was unable to find one who I felt was putting my interests first, specialized in complex businesses, and most importantly, one that I could trust. I felt that they were more interested in a quick flip than learning about my business to maximize value and meet my exit objectives.
As a result, I opted to hire an advisory team and sold my company myself. During that process, I learned the optimal way to exit a business for maximum value and fell in love with the concept of helping others exit their business. I also learned what not to do and became aware of the numerous hazards of not having the right level of experience to conduct a proper sale.
